the most common fears about boudoir (and why you will leave feeling the opposite)

Before We Begin, Please Know, It’s Okay (and perfectly normal) to Feel Nervous.

You’re not the only one who’s ever thought:

“What if I’m awkward?”
“What if I don’t look like the women on your website?”
“What if I freeze up completely?”

Take a deep breath… these thoughts are normal.

Every client who steps into Dark Moon Studio has felt those same butterflies. And every single one leaves saying, “That was so much easier, more empowering and more fun than I imagined.”

This post is for you. The beautifully human, slightly nervous, totally curious soul who’s ready but unsure.

Fear #1: “I’m Not Photogenic.”

This is the number-one worry I hear, and it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Honestly, I kind of love when I hear this from a client, because for me, it’s the perfect opportunity to change the narrative.
With a little guidance, a big dose of confidence, and a safe space to feel comfortable, you’ll quickly see how that nervous energy transforms into something radiant.
You’ll look and feel absolutely stunning.

A big part of my job and why you come to me, is to guide you every step of the way: how to move, where to look, when to breathe. You’ll be amazed how small adjustments, like the tilt of your chin, the placement of a hand, the light catching you in just the right way will create cinematic images that look effortless.

Just know that I’ve got you and I am here to make your boudoir experience, comfortable, empowering and far exceed your expectations.

You don’t need to know what to do. You just need to show up and trust that I’ll take it from there.

Fear #2: “I Need to Lose Weight First.”

You don’t. I say this all the time; if you came into the studio today, right now, as you are, I guarantee you would leave with photos that you LOVE.

Boudoir isn’t about waiting until you “fix” or change something about yourself, it’s about celebrating your body as it is.

We’ll take care of your hair and makeup and help style you in pieces that make you feel confident, and pose you in ways that flatter and highlight how fabulous you are.

Every curve, freckle, and scar tells part of your story. And that story is worth celebrating. No better time than the now!

Fear #3: “I Don’t Know How to Pose or Be Sexy.”

Good. You’re not supposed to…and also I will never say “be sexy” because “sexy” means and looks different for all of us.

Again, this is what I’m here for and why you book with me…well one of the reasons :) I will be guiding you through the entire experince. I will be getting into all the poses with you and helping you with all the little tweaks like hand placement, facial expression and the little details that make you look and feel like a cinematic masterpiece. Think of it as a dance between art and trust.

I always move ad your pace and work off of your vibe. My goal is to help you find that natural energy within you and allow that to take…which happens every shoot!

So it’s never about “being sexy.” It’s about feeling free and fantastic.

Fear #4: “I’m Too Old / Too Shy / Too ‘Something.’”

Nope, nope, BIG nope. There is no expiration date or restrictions on confidence. It is a decision that you make.

I’ve photographed women in their twenties, sixties, and every decade in between. I’ve worked with clients who’ve never worn lingerie and clients who arrive with suitcases full to the brim.

Every single person brings something unique and wonderful and that’s one of the things I love so so much about what I do. I want everyone to bring their authentic self to their session. I want this to feel uniquely you.

At Dark Moon Studio, inclusivity is the heart of what we do.

You don’t have to fit a mold…in fact, I don’t want you to. You just have to be you.

Fear #5: “I don’t want anyone to see My Photos”

Privacy is sacred here. Like EXTREAMLY.

Your images are yours, always. You have 100% control over where and if your images are shared. Nothing is shared without your written consent.

You’ll have full control over what’s shown publicly, what’s printed, and what stays between us.

You can rest easy knowing your art ,and your trust are fully protected.

Fear #6: “What If I Feel Awkward the Whole Time?”

You won’t. (Promise.)

The session feels more like hanging out with a friend who happens to have a camera, a really good playlist, and way too many chairs.

We’ll laugh, pause for breaks, and find a rhythm that feels natural and comfy for you.
Most clients start out nervous and end up dancing, laughing, and glowing by the final set…and we ALWAYS loose track of time.

That shift from nerves to “this is really fun” is where the transformation happens. Again, I’ve got ya.

Fear #7: “What If I Don’t Like How I Look in the Photos?”

This one breaks me because it usually comes from years of self-criticism that don’t belong to you anymore.

I get this and I feel this. We have all been flooded with “reasons” why we are not enough. That we need to change this, that and the other thing in order to be “better” versions of ourselves. Liking ourselves has become a literal act of rebellion. ..I mean, the audacity!

This is one of the million reasons boudoir photography is so special to me and I want to scream from the rooftop that everyone needs and deserves this experience. It is time to unlearn all that b.s. We are throwing all the out at the door and take control of the narrative!

One of my very favorite parts of the experience is when you see your images for the first time at your private reveal appointment. There have been tears, laughter happy dances and lots of “I can not believe that is me”. It is the BEST!

So yeah, I promise you will not just like your photos, you will LOVE them.

So, in short, you’ll leave feeling the opposite of all the fears you entered with.

You will be riding the infamous “boudoir high” and I suggest ridning that as long as you possibly came. Make it the beginning of a shift in the way that you see, talk to, value and love yourself on the daily because nothing is more important then the way you treat yourself.

Walk in nervous, walk out lighter, freer, and proud.

That’s the real purpose of boudoir: not to perform, but to reclaim.
Not to change who you are, but to finally see the beauty that’s always been there.
